Peter Collins Memorial Bursary

The Kamloops Symphony Music School and the family of Peter Collins, with support from friends, family and community, are proud to provide an annual bursary for one or more students who may not otherwise be able to access private music lessons. The bursary will be awarded through the following application process.

Application Deadline: November 21, 2022 – 9:00 am (PST)

Eligibility

  • The bursary is open to all students attending school in Kamloops or an immediate surrounding area, as well as any current or new students of the Kamloops Symphony Music School (KSMS) who are under the age of 18 at the time of application.
  • The student must be taking or planning to take private lessons at the Kamloops Symphony Music School, at another registered music school, or through a certified private music instructor in Kamloops or the surrounding area. (In the case of a private instructor, credentials of the teacher may be verified by the KSMS)
  • In the case of current KSMS students, no outstanding charges on account may be remaining at the time of application.
  • A fully completed and signed application form and all other required supporting materials must be received by the application deadline.

Assessment

  • A committee reviews each bursary application and awards the bursary according to the students’ demonstrated passion for music and financial need.
  • Funds are limited. One or more bursaries will be awarded per year depending on funds available.
  • Bursary amounts may vary.

Acceptance and Award

  • For a recipient enrolled at the KSMS, the bursary will be paid in the form of a credit to the student's account with the Kamloops Symphony Music School.
  • For students enrolled in lessons other than at the KSMS, the recipient will have to attest to committing to enough lessons to cover the value of the bursary. The recipient's music school or private teacher will be required to send an invoice to the KSMS for payment, proving lessons were taken. At no point will the bursary be awarded as cash directly to the recipient.
  • All applicants will be notified of the results via email within 4 weeks of the application deadline.
  • In the event that no applications are received, or no valid applications are accepted, the funds will be reinvested in the Peter Collins Memorial Fund.
  • The decision of the committee is final.

The deadline bursary applications has passed. Check back later to see when applications are open for the 2023 bursary.
